Christian O'Flaherty

Regional Vice President - Latin America and The Caribbean

Biography

I serve as the Regional Vice President for Latin America and The Caribbean, working and collaborating with governments, policymakers, civil society, academia, companies, technical communities, and other stakeholders. I joined the Internet Society in July 2009.

I began my career in academia in the early 90s and while developing the National Research and Education Network in Argentina, I became operations director. Soon after I joined a regional company to build and grow the Internet business. In 2006 the company was acquired by a global subsea cable provider where I was responsible for the Internet product in Latin America. I also served the regional community as chair at LACNIC's Public Policy Forum, and as founder and board member of local and regional organizations including the Latin America and The Caribbean Network Operators Group (LACNOG), the Latin American IXP Association (LAC-IX), the LAC Peering Forum, and several technical working groups.

I enjoy yoga (amateur 15 years practitioner), cycling (mountain), farming (at home), motorbikes (dual-sport), home automation (open source), programming (messy), cooking (apprentice), and music (diverse).
