APRICOT 2011 was jointly held with APAN and APNIC meetings in Hong Kong from February 15-25 with workshops, technical seminars and conferences covering multiple topics.

There was strong representation from ISOC at the various events with staff from the Asian Bureau and Standards & Technology group in attendance.

A successful chapters and members meeting was held during the period, with around 15 chapter representatives present. Regional Bureau Manager, Rajnesh Singh provided an update on regional plans and activities, Senior Manger for Chapters, Anne Lord provided an update on chapter development, and members of ISOC’s Standards and Technology team, Leslie Daigle (Chief Internet Technology Officer) and Phil Roberts (Technology Programme Manager) provided an update on World IPv6 Day. As in previous years, ISOC extended financial support for the APRICOT 2011 Fellowship programme. ISOC also provided support for an APTLD workshop and the APNG Camp, both of which were co-located with APRICOT 2011.

APRICOT 2012 is scheduled for Delhi, India.

ISOC @ APNG Camp 13

The 13th APNG Camp was held in Hong Kong from February 21-25 with the theme “An ICT Landmark for Next Generation”. APNG Camp has been an annual camp for youth from the Asia Pacific Region to meet, interact and learn from senior community leaders from Asia Pacific. This helps develop the youth into future Internet community leaders. ISOC has been supporting the APNG Camp for several years now.

ISOC’s Regional Bureau Manager for Asia, Rajnesh Singh, delivered a keynote address on “The Internet and You”.

ISOC@ AP STAR Retreat Hong Kong

The first AP STAR Retreat for 2011 was held in Hong Kong, alongside APRICOT 2011. AP STAR is a group of organisations working in the Asia Pacific region covering the scientific and technical community. The AP STAR Retreats provide a good opportunity to interact with other organisations working in the region and exchange information and knowledge.

The next AP STAR Retreat is scheduled to be held during the APNIC meeting in Busan, Korea in August.
