ISOC @ APNG 10 Camp

Regional Bureau Manager, Rajnesh Singh, attended the 10th APNG Camp held at AIT (Asian Institute of Technology) in Pathumthani, Thailand.

From the APNG website:

Asia Pacific Networking Group (APNG) is an Internet organization dedicated to the advancement of networking infrastructure in this region and to the research and development of all associated enabling technologies. Its mission is to promote the Internet and the coordination of network inter-connectivity in the Asia Pacific Region. It also represents the “Asia Pacific Next Generation” raising the voice of the Next Generation of the region.

Through its activities, it has spawned off a number of Asia Pacific organizations including Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), Asia & Pacific Internet Association (APIA), Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD) and Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT). Today, APNG represents the region at the Coordinating Committee for Inter-Continental Research Networking (CCIRN), and is the leading voice of Internet networking in the Asia Pacific Region.

APNG Camps were set up to bring together future Internet community leaders (the “Next Generation”) so that they may interact with senior Internet community leaders and build capacity, share information, and enhance and grow their contacts and networks. The camp is primarily targetted at developing countries from the region, but enjoys wide participation from economies in the Asia Pacific region, as well as outside. The camps are held at regular intervals around the region. The 2008 camp had over 100 participants and the papers presented by the camp fellows covered topics ranging from blogging and digital divide issues to technical issues such as Internet security, IPv6 and traffic analysis. This is the second year that ISOC has sponsored the APNG Camp. More details on the 10th APNG Camp can be found here.

Singh provided an overview of ISOC’s activities and highlighted opportunities for engagement. He later facilitated a session on Internet Governance, its importance and role today, and how one can participate in the Internet Governance process.
